As an Australian we were not allowed to tour the White House as our consulate are too lazy to apply for us.
Americans have to apply through their congressman for permission so be aware that you just cannot turn up and request a tour like they do in the movies.!

Cool to see, but they no longer allow you to go up close to the gated fence. They now force you to the other side of the street onto a narrow crowded walkway so the experience is nothing like it used to be. :(

Now It's impossible to get close to the White House, if you have a good camera you can get the same picture from the National Mall (Washington Monument) as if you walk all the way The Ellipse garden, because you have the same view, The Ellipse its crowded and you have to try to take the picture when nobody passes

We got there early but was getting crowded by the time we left. Such history and photos you must get tickets to get in and not at the door. I wrote my congressman it took awhile to get an answer and you won't know your day or time until about 2 weeks before your trip. Worth it.

The White House has a lot of history behind it.
The White House has a lot of history behind it. I encourage everyone to know its story and request an invite to walk into the grand home. Not only is it a place where our President resides but also where important decisions are made. It makes me proud that I am an American!

This hotel is really awesome , totally central, you can walk 10 min to the White House, the Metro is only 5 min walk and there are some bars around. Staff is super friendly, there is a lobby with coffee and tea. Rooms (very clean) are small and you are on a street corner - so not for light sleeper but you will be anyway totally exhausted at the end of the day. This is the place to stay when you visit DC.
Small room but had all I needed -- large bed, desk, stool and spacious bathroom with clothes hanger area. Found hotel on lovely street 20 minute walk from the White House with some restaurants within 5 minute stroll. A venerable old building that was very fancy or chic, but is clean, quiet, safe with friendly staff.
It is a very modern hotel, nice bedrooms, new bathrooms, mini fridge, coffee machine, big TV, full cover on the window for the nights. We were lucky to have a room at the 7th floor, nice view! The location is good, very close to the Foggy Bottom metrom station, WholeFood, Starbacks, 7eleven, just 3 mins away. The White House is ~20 mins away by walking. Georgetown is even closer (10 mins on foot) with many restaurants and good vibe. The lobby has a small grocery store, too. We were able to check in at 3PM with no extra cost.
Hotel's location is not bad but quite far from the main places for tourists like The White House, Smithsonian Museums etc. In addition there are not much restaurants where you can eat. Most of all of them around hotel are take away type.
Close to the white house and other attractions in the DC Metro Area. Farragut West Blue Line is just next to the hotel main entrance, very convenient to commute via metro rail
.The location of the hotel is great. You are in a walking distance from the main attractions-
the White house, Smithsonian museums...
The breakfast was good. What I missed was a variety of cheesees and fresh fruits.
Location of the hotel is amazing. It is literally 10 min walk from the White house. Room was nice but bathroom was small. overall nice hotel. Definitely would recommend to others
I liked the location, its 1.9 miles to the White House and 1 mile to the zoo in the opposite direction on Connecticut road, We walked everywhere and sometimes used the scooter and it was lovely. The local restaurants close to the hotel were great, and even delivery was good.
The neighborhood was clean and safe, if you enjoy walks this location is for you.
The cafe and bar in the hotel were also pretty convenient. Housekeeping came in daily to freshen up our room, there was laundry on site which was also convenient.
Location is great, just a few blocks from the White House and the Metro. The room was very nice and recently remodeled, there is construction going on, but the workers do respect the hours set by the hotel. Breakfast (for a fee) was only available through room service since the restaurant was closed due to construction.
One of the best hotel experiences I've had in years. The room far exceeded my expectations: incredibly spacious and great area to work (I was there on business). The location in Foggy Bottom was very convenient for accessing the Capitol Mall, museums, metro stations, the White House, and other major DC attractions.

I got a photo outside the White House of just me at 7:45AM, by 10:00AM it was packed and you couldn't get a good whole body whole house photo without hoards of other people, so go early for memorial photos and tickets
Go early. You want to be queueing for the Washington Monument at 7AM, tickets available at 8:30, if you get there any later than 8:30 they'll be gone for the day. You can book in advance, but often it has to be a long way in advance. Also things like Ford Theatre and Holocaust Memorial Museum arrive early and queue, and if you want photos of attractions go early. I got a photo outside the White House of just me at 7:45AM, by 10:00AM it was packed and you couldn't get a good whole body whole house photo without hoards of other people, so go early for memorial photos and tickets.
